The Baseline Assessment finds what your child already knows, so every challenge starts in the right place. It gives two separate starting points, one for CLIC and one for Learn Its. There is no pass mark and no score.
A Glade for starting out. A new child's Door opens a Glade with just one totem, Learn Its. Tapping it starts the Baseline Assessment. (New to Doors, Glades and totems? See Getting started.)
Number facts come first. Your child answers Learn Its facts one at a time. There is no timer and no score.
Then the CLIC totem appears. When the Learn Its part is done, your child goes back to their Glade and finds the CLIC totem waiting. They can tap it straight away or come back another day.
Olive, the blue bird, introduces this part. Some questions will feel hard. That is how the app finds the right starting point, so it is fine not to know. At a checkpoint, Keep Exploring carries on and Take a break returns to the Doors screen.

Celebrate the starting point. The app saves both starting points and the Progress Tree comes to life. Start My Adventure leads on to ordinary challenges. From then on the Glade shows everything: both totems and the Learn Its Practice Area.
If the device is offline when the Baseline Assessment finishes, Olive asks for a grown-up to go online. Tapping Let's Go! twice lets your child carry on in their Glade, and the results reach bigmaths.website the next time the app opens online.
See the results online. Once the result reaches bigmaths.website, you can see both starting points. You can also select View Incorrect Baseline Answers.
A starting point to be glad of. Many children start at a level below their school year. That is common and expected. It is the level where your child can succeed straight away, and success is what builds confidence. CLIC and Learn Its levels often differ, and that is perfectly normal too.
By the way…
Before you start, say: "This is a chance to show what you know, and nobody knows everything." You can read the screen or help tap a box. Please don't hint at answers, even with a look.
